Be yourself; everyone else is already taken | Oscar Wilde
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
These are words we should all take to heart.
When I was younger I had the thought that no one understood me. That I was alone in this world. I had friends but not friends, if that makes any sense.
One day my mother introduced me to someone who would wind up having the most profound impact on my life. She handed me a book by Emily Dickinson and it became my bible.
As I lost myself in this world of beauty I felt like this woman was stretching her hand through the pages of time and touching me and saying I know how you feel, you aren’t alone, I’m here.
If you were to ever ask me to define myself, to sum up my entire being in just one single word it would Chartless. I am neither here nor there. I am as unending as the ocean and as vast as the stars. There is no start and no stop to who I am. I am a continual ebb, like the tide on the shore. I am Chartless because Emily made me so.
"I never saw a moor,
I never saw the sea;
Yet now I know how the heather looks,
And what a wave must be.
I never spoke with God,
Nor visited in Heaven;
Yet certain am I of the spot
As if the chart were given.”
