Song of the Wave by Kahlil Gibran
… I steal swiftly from behind the
Blue horizon to cast the silver of
My foam upon the gold of his sand, and
We blend in melted brilliance …
Song of the Wave by Khalil Gibran
… Many times have I teased the great rocks
And fondled them with a smile, but never
Have I received laughter from them;
Many times have I lifted drowning souls
And carried them tenderly to my beloved
Shore. He gives them strength as he
Takes mine …
Song of the Wave by Khalil Gibran
… In the heaviness of night, when all
Creatures seek the ghost of Slumber,
I sit up, singing at one time and sighing
At another. I am awake always …
I have illustrated the entire poem. It’s rather oddly done as I have posted starting from the end and will finish at the beginning. I’ve done this so that when you go to my blog page the poem starts at the beginning and ends at the finish.
Song of the Wave by Khalil Gibran
The strong shore is my beloved
And I am his sweetheart.
We are at last united by love, and
Then the moon draws me from him.
I go to him in haste and depart
Reluctantly, with many
Little farewells.
I steal swiftly from behind the
Blue horizon to cast the silver of
My foam upon the gold of his sand, and
We blend in melted brilliance.
I quench his thirst and submerge his
Heart; he softens my voice and subdues
My temper.
At dawn I recite the rules of love upon
His ears, and he embraces me longingly.
At eventide I sing to him the song of
Hope, and then print smooth kisses upon
His face; I am swift and fearful, but he
Is quiet, patient, and thoughtful. His
Broad bosom soothes my restlessness.
As the tide comes we caress each other,
When it withdraws, I drop to his feet in
Prayer.
Many times have I danced around mermaids
As they rose from the depths and rested
Upon my crest to watch the stars;
Many times have I heard lovers complain
Of their smallness, and I helped them to sigh.
Many times have I teased the great rocks
And fondled them with a smile, but never
Have I received laughter from them;
Many times have I lifted drowning souls
And carried them tenderly to my beloved
Shore. He gives them strength as he
Takes mine.
Many times have I stolen gems from the
Depths and presented them to my beloved
Shore. He takes them in silence, but still
I give for he welcomes me ever.
In the heaviness of night, when all
Creatures seek the ghost of Slumber, I
Sit up, singing at one time and sighing
At another. I am awake always.
Alas! Sleeplessness has weakened me!
But I am a lover, and the truth of love
Is strong.
I may be weary, but I shall never die.
I’ve posted this before but I still think my original text that I wrote to go with it is suitable.
I think the creator took everything beautiful about the ocean and let that crash onto this dress. I don’t know if anyone else thinks this but to me the dress is the “net” that catches all the offerings from the sea and the bottom looks like sea foam. Maybe she designed this for a mermaid who found her legs? c. 1929
I don’t normally bother posting modern fashion but I covet this dress. That train is stunning!!!
Edit: I just realized that someone will inevitably reblog me and start going on about her sudden weight loss.
I’m not interested in debating her weight, she’s a big girl (reference to her age, 25, not her weight) and it’s her body. Can we please just keep this about how amazing that dress is?
Besides, big or small, you’re all beautiful.
Also, I am totally tickled by the Anna Bolena sign in the background! Last semester I toured the costume studio in London who was working on finishing up the costumes for that production!
“Well, have you lost your courage? Put out your little tongue that I may cut it off as my payment; then you shall have the powerful draught.”
Aquamarine and Seafoam Green.
Those are two of my favorite colours
when I think of these names visions of Aphrodite appear sweeping me away into a tide of the past where the present and the future collide in an array of exquisite glory that leaves me gasping
even now the visions my mind conjures are overwhleming
